Hepatitis A, B & C Panel

Infectious Disease Testing

A hepatitis A, B & C panel is a combination of blood tests that are used to screen for and diagnose infections with hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C viruses. These tests can detect the presence of viral antibodies and/or antigens in the blood, which indicate if a person has been exposed to or currently has an active infection with one of these viruses.

Hepatitis A is usually a short-term, self-limiting infection that does not cause chronic liver disease. Hepatitis B and C, on the other hand, can lead to chronic liver infection, liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer if left untreated. It is important to detect and treat these infections early to prevent serious complications.

The hepatitis A, B & C panel typically includes the following tests: Hepatitis A antibody (anti-HAV) test, Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) test, Hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) test, Hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) test, Hepatitis C antibody (anti-HCV) test.

The results of these tests can help healthcare providers determine if a person is immune to hepatitis A or B, has an active infection with one of these viruses, or has been exposed to hepatitis C in the past. Based on these results, further testing, follow-up, and treatment may be recommended.
